“For You To Be Part Of President Tinubu’s Team, You Either Have EFCC On Your Neck Or Have Been Convicted“ — Ex-Edo Governor, Prof. Osunbor Takes Aim at Tinubu’s Team
Former Edo State Governor and Professor of Law, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, has criticised the composition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, raising questions about the backgrounds of some individuals associated with the President’s political team.
Osunbor, a former governor and legal scholar, made the remark while commenting on what he described as a troubling pattern in the selection of people who occupy influential positions within the administration.
According to him, the circumstances surrounding the appointment or association of certain individuals with the government have created an impression that controversial backgrounds or past legal troubles may be becoming a defining feature of those close to the presidency.
He stated:
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.

The statement is likely to generate fresh debate over the standards expected of public officials and political appointees, particularly at a time when issues of corruption, accountability and integrity remain major concerns in Nigeria’s political discourse.
Osunbor’s comments also place renewed attention on the role of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in investigating politically exposed persons and the broader question of whether individuals facing allegations or convictions should be entrusted with sensitive responsibilities in government.
The former governor’s remarks come amid intense political discussions surrounding President Tinubu’s administration, with opposition figures and critics increasingly scrutinising the records and conduct of individuals within the government’s wider political circle.
While Osunbor’s statement represents his assessment of the situation, allegations against individuals remain distinct from proven wrongdoing, and each case must ultimately be determined on the basis of established facts and due process.
The comment has nonetheless added another layer to the ongoing national conversation about integrity, accountability and the calibre of individuals entrusted with public responsibility under the Tinubu administration.
