Former Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is set to appear before a court after being charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen following a road collision involving a Lamborghini on the M3 motorway.
As reported by The Sun, the former England international will appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15 to answer to the charges.
The case stems from a single-vehicle collision which occurred on May 28, 2026, on the southbound section of the M3, close to the Minley Interchange. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident and that no injuries were reported.
A statement from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman issued to The Sun said: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.
“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.
“The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.
“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
“Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.”
The dangerous driving charge is particularly serious, as a conviction could carry severe penalties, including a possible prison sentence of up to two years, depending on the outcome of the court proceedings.
Sterling’s court appearance on September 15 is expected to bring further clarity to the circumstances surrounding the M3 crash and the allegations now levelled against the former Premier League star.
The 31-year-old footballer, who has enjoyed a high-profile career with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, will now face the judicial process as the charges against him are formally considered by the court.
