The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, has expressed optimism that Abia State is making steady progress in infrastructure, healthcare, human capital development and other key areas under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
Speaking during the thanksgiving service marking the 35th anniversary of the creation of Abia State, Nwachukwu said the state had witnessed significant changes since 2023, describing the period as the beginning of a “New Abia.”
He said the Otti administration had embarked on several projects aimed at transforming the state through improved infrastructure, expanded public services and investment in the people.
According to him, human capital development is an important part of sustainable development, stressing that the present administration is paying greater attention to improving the lives and skills of Abians.
The Commissioner acknowledged that some of the current initiatives could have produced better results if previous administrations had taken the necessary steps, but noted that “it is better late than never.”
Nwachukwu said the government had begun addressing some of the longstanding challenges facing the state and expressed confidence that Abia was moving in the right direction.
He identified healthcare and infrastructure as some of the areas where the administration was recording progress, adding that the state had made a strong start in its development efforts.
The Commissioner thanked God for what he described as the positive transformation taking place in Abia and expressed optimism that the state would continue to make progress in the years ahead.
