Political Journey

Agbebaku emerged as Speaker of the 8th Edo State House of Assembly in June 2023 and presided over one of the most politically turbulent periods in the state’s legislature, marked by shifting alliances and changing party loyalties.

Originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025, a move that strengthened the ruling party’s influence in the Assembly and altered the state’s political equation.

Although he weathered several political challenges during his tenure, reports of growing dissatisfaction among some lawmakers had fuelled speculation that his leadership was under threat.
