Aba South Mayor, Hon. Anyanwu Reaffirms Support for Community Policing as Abia Community Police Inducts Okechukwu Mozie as State Patron, Commissions New Aba Office

The Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante Group has inducted and decorated Mr. Okechukwu Mozie as its State Patron, in a landmark ceremony that also witnessed the official commissioning of a new office for the group in Aba.

The epoch-making event was held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at River Side Primary School, Aba, drawing traditional rulers, security personnel, community leaders and other stakeholders who gathered to strengthen the collective effort towards protecting lives and property across the state.

The Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, attended the ceremony and commended the community policing group for its dedication to maintaining peace and supporting the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against crime.

Anyanwu pledged the continued support of his administration to the group, stressing that security challenges affecting Aba remain a collective responsibility. He assured the members that the local government would continue to support initiatives that complement the efforts of the police and other recognised security agencies in Aba South.

Speaking on behalf of the executive members, the Administrative Secretary of Ancient Ohazu Community Police, High Chief Maxwell S. Ubani, commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for his administration’s support towards the revitalisation and transformation of community policing in the state.

Ubani highlighted some of the interventions by the state government, including the provision of a Sienna bus and the allocation of a headquarters office for the Abia State Community Police in Umuahia.

He said the community police initiative was established to complement conventional security agencies, protect residents, expose criminal activities and contribute to reducing crime across communities.

According to him, security requires sacrifice and selfless service, urging members of the group to remain committed to their responsibilities and the protection of the people.

The Divisional Police Officer of the Central Police Station (CPS), Aba, CSP Frank Omelu, also praised Ndi Eze Aba for their commitment to security matters and their cooperation with the community police.

Omelu noted that the community policing members had made significant contributions to the work of the police, describing their support as valuable to security operations in Aba. He encouraged traditional rulers and community stakeholders to intensify their efforts toward strengthening security across the city.

In his address, the State Commander of Abia State Community Police, Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme, charged members to maintain professionalism and remain faithful to the guiding principles of the organisation.

He instructed members to operate strictly within approved areas, promptly report security matters to the police and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the group.

Iheadindueme also appealed to stakeholders in Aba South Local Government Area to support the organisation with operational vehicles, communication equipment and other essential security gadgets needed to improve its effectiveness.

Earlier, the Aba South Commander, Chief Eme, welcomed guests to the ceremony, with particular appreciation to the traditional rulers who attended and have continued to contribute to the development of community policing in the area.

He acknowledged the role played by the traditional institution and community stakeholders in the formation and growth of the Ndiegoro Community Police, describing their sustained involvement as instrumental to the group’s progress.

The induction of Okechukwu Mozie as State Patron, alongside the commissioning of the new office, marked another significant step in the group’s efforts to strengthen community-based security and deepen collaboration between local communities, traditional institutions and conventional se curity agencies in Abia State.
