Abia APC Demands Reinstatement of Suspended ABSU Professor, Condemns Outdated Lecturer Salaries

​The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate and unconditional recall of Professor Nnamdi Nwanze, a lecturer at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), who was recently suspended by the institution’s administration.

​Speaking during a media briefing at the party secretariat, the Abia APC Publicity Secretary, Chief Uche Aguoru, condemned the university management and the state government for penalizing the academic over his public criticism of worker welfare and governance in the state.

​Chief Aguoru described the suspension as an attempt to silence constructive criticism, highlighting the severe financial strain placed on university staff due to outdated pay frameworks.

​“A government that lacks empathy pays a university Don less than ₦400,000 in 2026 using a 2009 salary structure, while taxing them under a 2024 framework, and expects the best from him. It is unjust, and we must demand accountability,” Aguoro  stated.

​The party revealed that ABSU is among the state-owned institutions affected by directive actions from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over unpaid entitlements and poor working conditions.

​The APC called on state authorities to immediately halt all forms of intimidation against vocal public servants, pay all outstanding promotion arrears and allowances, and align lecturer compensation with approved, modern pay scales.
