The scheme, designed to cushion the economic hardship faced by widows, has provided a critical lifeline to thousands of women grappling with the emotional trauma of losing their spouses and the financial uncertainty that often follows widowhood.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, commended Governor Oborevwori for what he described as exemplary and compassionate leadership.

Okonta disclosed that payment of the June 2026 stipends to the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme had commenced, with funds already hitting beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

He said the Governor’s consistency in releasing the monthly stipends underscored the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable Deltans.

“The stipends for June 2026 have started hitting the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme. This is another demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens,” Okonta said.
