Troops Neutralise Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Arms Cache In Kebbi

June 28 () — The Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has recorded another operational success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Nigeria’s North-West, neutralising two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during a military operation in Kebbi State.

According to the military, the operation was carried out on Friday, June 27, 2026, by troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State, following credible intelligence that members of the Lakurawa terrorist group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists in a bid to thwart the planned assault.

“The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community. Acting swiftly on the information, troops mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance in order to foil the planned attack”, the statement read.

The military disclosed that the terrorists walked into the ambush, leading to a fierce gun battle during which troops overwhelmed the attackers with superior firepower.

According to the statement, two terrorists were killed during the encounter, while others fled into the surrounding forest with varying degrees of injuries.

Following the exchange of fire, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the area and recovered a cache of weapons and operational equipment believed to have belonged to the fleeing terrorists.

Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, several AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle suspected to have been used for terrorist operations.

The military described the operation as another significant blow against terrorist elements operating in the North-West, reiterating its resolve to sustain offensive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks threatening peace and security in the region.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA assured residents that troops remain committed to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement across the theatre of operations.

The Joint Task Force asked the public to continue supporting security agencies by sharing timely, credible intelligence to help with ongoing counter-terrorism operations and improve security in affected communities.
