Osun APC rejects Accord claim of violent motor park take over

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected allegations by the state chapter of Accord that it was working with National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, leader, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, to forcefully take over motor parks across the state.

The APC in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Monday, described the allegation as ill-conceived, false and fabricated.

The reaction followed a statement by the Osun State chairman of the Accord, Pastor Victor Akande, who on Sunday accused the APC and MC Oluomo of allegedly plotting a violent takeover of motor parks in the state.

Akande had alleged that MC Oluomo was working through Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, and some members of the Osun APC to take control of motor parks.

Responding to the allegation, the APC said Accord was chasing shadows over the leadership crisis within the NURTW and denied having any involvement in the administration or activities of the transport union.

The party said, “We, as a political party, have no business in the running of the NURTW in the state as such is not captured in any of the provisions of the Constitution of our party.”

The APC also urged members of the public and the police to disregard the allegation, describing it as “frivolous, reckless, diversionary and without any proof”.

The party argued that any attempt by the Osun State government to become directly involved in the affairs of the NURTW would amount to interference, while referring to provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

It said, “How many times do we need to spoon-feed the Accord handlers and the state government with the sufficient and elaborate position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended?”

The APC further alleged that if there was any attempt by any group to disrupt peace in the state, the state government and Accord leaders should be held responsible.

The party said it expected the state government to concentrate on governance following the recently concluded governorship election instead of making what it described as unsubstantiated allegations.

“We thought that after the last governorship election, the incumbent state government would deem it necessary to face governance squarely instead of chasing shadows and making it an habit to misinform the innocent members of the public,” the statement said.

The APC also said it was focused on political activities ahead of the January 2027 presidential election, adding that this further made Accord’s allegation of a planned disruption baseless.

On the leadership of the NURTW in Osun, the party said MC Oluomo had sworn in a caretaker committee led by Asiri Eniba to administer the affairs of the union for six months.

The APC also opposed the reported call for police authorities to take over motor parks, arguing that the control, establishment and regulation of motor parks fall under local government councils.

The party cited Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution in support of its position, maintaining that local government councils have responsibilities relating to public motor parks and revenue collection.

The dispute comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the Osun NURTW and recent violence linked to competing claims over control of motor parks and the killing of Olamilekan Oyeyemi also known as Emir Ajagungbade in Ile-Ife on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The APC had also previously criticised the state government’s proposed Park Management System.
