2027: Don’t be afraid of impending defeat – Ogun PDP deputy gov candidate tells opposition

The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has told members of the opposition not to be afraid of what she described as their impending defeat in the 2027 general elections.

Kolapo said the PDP would not abandon its political opponents after defeating them at the polls.

She spoke at the Ijemo Zone meeting of the party in Ward 5, Abeokuta South, at the weekend.

The meeting was attended by party members and stakeholders from across the constituency.

According to Kolapo, it was understandable for members of the opposition to be apprehensive, claiming that Politics in Ogun State had moved beyond personal interests that had subjected residents to hardship.

“We want to assure our brothers and sisters in the opposition, who know the truth but are running helter-skelter to protect their ‘soup pots’, that they will still be able to eat after we must have thrashed them at the polls.

“We will not allow Politics to break the bond between the true sons and daughters of Ogun State. We know that when the chips are down, the strangers that they are selling now because of their pockets will abandon them, but we will never do so. So, they’ll come round,” she said.

Kolapo, who is the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland, said her relationship with the people of Egbaland predated her involvement in Politics, adding that their welfare remained a priority.

She urged residents to support PDP candidates for the National Assembly and Ogun State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Ogun State, Biodun Ogunremi, urged party members to intensify door-to-door mobilisation ahead of the polls.

“The masses are tired of pain and they are with us. In the Central, we have the Deputy Governor and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo. That is what is giving them headache,” Ogunremi said.

The Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council, Mustapha Owolabi, also expressed confidence in the party’s chances, describing the 2027 election as a “done deal” for the PDP.

Owolabi claimed that voters in Ogun Central and other parts of the state were ready to support the party at the polls.
