Ikpeazu Mourns Orbih, Says Nigeria Has Lost a Courageous Democrat

The Nigerian Ambassador to Spain and former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has mourned the death of former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-South, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, describing his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s political community.

Orbih, a prominent Edo politician and veteran PDP leader, died on August 31, 2026, at the age of 64.

In a condolence message made available to journalists today, Ikpeazu described the deceased as an accomplished democrat, grassroots mobiliser, political strategist and bridge-builder who made significant contributions to the development of democratic Politics in Edo State, the South-South and Nigeria.

According to him, Orbih’s political relevance was built on his courage, organisational ability and extensive knowledge of grassroots Politics, qualities which earned him respect across political circles.

Ikpeazu noted that the late PDP chieftain’s contributions transcended partisan Politics, stressing that his wealth of experience and commitment to public service would be greatly missed.

“Chief Dan Orbih was not merely a politician; he was an institution in his own right. His wealth of experience, political courage and understanding of the people will be greatly missed,” he said.

The former governor extended his condolences to Orbih’s wife, Mrs Florence Orbih, his children, siblings and other members of the family, as well as the leadership and members of the PDP, particularly the party’s South-South chapter.

Ikpeazu also paid tribute to Orbih’s service as Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, describing his death as a significant loss to the university and the wider public service community.

He urged the bereaved family to draw comfort from the enduring legacy of the late politician and the lives he positively impacted during his lifetime.

Ikpeazu prayed God to grant the family the strength to cope with the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.

He added: “Nigeria has lost a courageous political leader and the South-South has lost an important voice. But his legacy of service will endure.”
