Obi, Kwankwaso Rally NDC Candidates, Target Grassroots Support Ahead 2027

• Peter Obi hosted his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside governorship, senatorial and other candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.

September 02, () — Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has hosted his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other candidates of the party at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja, as the party intensifies efforts to expand its political reach ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, who is the NDC vice-presidential candidate, was accompanied by governorship, senatorial and other candidates of the party from various states during the visit.

Obi, in a statement after the meeting, said discussions centred on strategies for expanding and deepening the NDC’s presence across the country, particularly by taking its message to rural communities and the hinterlands.

According to him, the engagement was part of the groundwork required to build a formidable political structure capable of delivering the party’s message of what he described as “national redemption” to Nigerians at the grassroots.

“I was pleased to host Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, our Vice Presidential candidate, and the gubernatorial, senatorial and other candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) from various states, at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.

“ Our discussions focused primarily on strategies to expand and deepen the reach of our party and take our message of national redemption to rural communities and the hinterlands,” Obi said.

The former Anambra governor also assured the candidates of his continued support in their respective states and constituencies, promising to work closely with them and undertake the necessary political groundwork to secure victory for the NDC.

He described his partnership with Kwankwaso as a joint effort aimed at changing the direction of the country and rescuing Nigeria from what he characterised as ineffective leadership.

Obi said the partnership was built around a commitment to addressing some of the country’s most pressing socio-economic challenges rather than merely pursuing political power.

He identified poverty reduction, tackling the number of out-of-school children, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, improving national security, promoting unity and transforming Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy into a productive one as key priorities.

“We are committed to commencing the lifting of vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, securing our nation, uniting our people, and moving Nigeria from consumption to production,” he said.

Kwankwaso, who also shared photographs from the meeting, said the partnership with Obi was anchored on a shared commitment to addressing the challenges confronting Nigerians.

He said the NDC’s political mission was to develop solutions to widespread poverty, insecurity, unemployment and other socio-economic problems while creating an environment in which businesses could thrive.

Obi, while reaffirming his confidence in the partnership and the party’s candidates, said the objective remained to build a new political direction for Nigeria.

“A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK,” he said.

The meeting comes as political activities and realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and political alliances increasingly focusing on building structures beyond major cities and securing grassroots support.
