BREAKING: OPay Reacts to Viral Shutdown Rumour, Reveals What Customers Should Know

OPay Digital Services Limited has dismissed as false a viral social media publication claiming that the fintech company would suspend its operations from September 1, 2026.

The message, which circulated across social media platforms, reportedly urged OPay customers to withdraw or move their funds ahead of an alleged prolonged shutdown.

However, OPay has described the publication as false and misleading, assuring its customers that the company remains fully operational.

In a statement shared through its verified communication channels and titled “This is FALSE!”, OPay said:

“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!”

The fintech company also urged members of the public to scrutinise viral posts carefully, noting that the circulating publication contains several red flags that can help users distinguish it from genuine OPay communications.

“Always verify before you share. Filter the noise! Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” the company stated.

OPay’s Vice President, Public and Government Affairs, Dr. Maxwell Loko, also described the viral message as “false, malicious and misleading,” stressing that the company has no plans to shut down its operations.

He cautioned customers against making financial decisions based on unverified information circulating online.

The company further advised customers to rely exclusively on its verified platforms for announcements concerning its services and operations.

The clarification comes as the fake shutdown message generated concern among some social media users, particularly those who feared that the alleged September 1 development could affect their funds and transactions.

OPay’s latest statement, however, puts the rumour to rest, with the fintech company reaffirming that it remains operational.

Customers have therefore been advised to disregard the viral publication and verify financial information through OPay’s authenticated communication channels before sharing or acting on it.
