Missing Newborn Sparks Ogun Baby Factory Probe As Police Rescue Two Pregnant Women, Four Children

August 25, () — The Ogun Police Command has uncovered an alleged illegal baby factory in Abaren village, Mowe, following an operation that led to the rescue of two pregnant women and four children and the arrest of six suspects.

The operation, according to the Command, was carried out on Monday by operatives of the Mowe Police Division following sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.

A statement signed on Tuesday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the operatives stormed the suspected syndicate’s hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, at about 8:00 a.m.

During the operation, the police rescued two pregnant women and four children from the premises.

The pregnant women were said to be seven and eight months pregnant, respectively, while the four children comprised two males and two females.

The six suspects arrested during the operation are now being investigated over their alleged links to the activities of the suspected baby factory and trafficking network.

Missing Baby Deepens Investigation

The police investigation was subsequently extended to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where detectives discovered another alleged victim who had delivered a baby boy.

According to the police, the woman delivered the child on Thursday and was still receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

However, detectives were unable to establish the whereabouts of the newborn.

The development raised fresh concerns and led to the arrest of the attending nurse as investigators began probing the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the baby.

The command said the investigation would also determine the full circumstances surrounding the pregnant women and children rescued from the suspected facility.

Opeyemi said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the Mowe Division for their prompt response and operational efficiency. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across Ogun State.

Ojajuni urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information to support intelligence-led policing.

The Commissioner also called for greater cooperation from residents to enable security agencies to identify suspicious activities and protect vulnerable persons from criminal exploitation.
