Abia’s Elders Break Silence: Why Senior Citizens Are Standing Firmly With Governor Otti
Senior citizens across Abia State have expressed strong support for Governor Alex Otti, praising his administration’s approach to governance and calling on him to remain focused on his development agenda.
A group known as the Senior Citizens Alliance for Alex Otti, representing senior citizens across the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State, has declared what it described as its “firm and unreserved” support for the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
In a message addressed to the governor, the group said its members were not only beneficiaries of government policies but also elders and stakeholders who had witnessed different administrations in the state.
The group commended Governor Otti for what it described as a leadership style centred on integrity, discipline, transparency and people-oriented development.
According to the statement signed by the Convener of the group, Mazi Dr Otti Nwaka, hc, the senior citizens particularly appreciated initiatives attributed to the administration in areas including pensioners’ welfare, healthcare, infrastructure, education and social welfare.
‘We Feel Seen, Heard and Valued’
The senior citizens said the administration’s approach had given many elderly residents renewed confidence in government.
“For many of us who have lived through different administrations, this is the first time in a long while that we feel seen, heard, and valued,” the group stated.
The group also praised what it described as the governor’s commitment to due process and the rule of law, as well as his stated position against waste and corruption.
It further described Otti’s leadership as inclusive, saying that people should be carried along irrespective of age, background or political affiliation.
Elders Urge Otti Not to Be Distracted
While acknowledging the challenges confronting the state, the group said it believed the governor had demonstrated courage and determination in addressing them.
The senior citizens urged Otti to remain focused despite criticism or distractions.
“Do not be distracted,” the group appealed, adding that the work of the administration was already producing results and that history would remember the governor favourably.
The group said it was prepared to contribute its prayers, wisdom, support and voices toward what it described as the success of good governance in Abia State.
‘We Stand Firmly Behind Your Administration’
In its strongest declaration, the Senior Citizens Alliance for Alex Otti said it and other senior citizens in the state stood firmly behind the governor.
“We, the Senior Citizens Alliance For Alex Otti and all seniors of Abia State, stand firmly and unreservedly behind your administration,” the statement read.
The group also offered a biblical reference from Proverbs 20:29, describing the wisdom of older people as a valuable resource and pledging to provide both support and counsel to the governor.
The statement concluded with prayers for Governor Otti, his family and his administration.
The message was signed by Mazi Dr Otti Nwaka, hc, Convener, Senior Citizens Alliance for Alex Otti, on behalf of the group and senior citizens of Abia State.
