Mrs Berida Irawo, who was reportedly set ablaze by her 33-year-old husband, Jacob Irawo, during a domestic dispute in Lokoja, Kogi State, has pleaded for his forgiveness following his arrest.

The incident reportedly occurred at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja, on Friday, August 14, 2026. Preliminary findings indicate that the dispute started after Berida allegedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.

Jacob reportedly became angry, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and allegedly set his wife ablaze.

A fresh update emerged after Pastor John Esiga Abu visited Berida at the hospital on Tuesday, August 18.

According to Abu, Berida is currently in stable condition and is expected to be discharged in the coming days. He also disclosed that the victim pleaded for her husband’s forgiveness despite the alleged attack.

Abu further said Jacob’s behaviour and statements immediately after the incident appeared incoherent, raising concerns about his mental state and the need for proper mental evaluation.

The development has sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users questioning the circumstances surrounding the incident and others expressing concern over domestic violence.
