August 17, () — Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election has sounded an early warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Frank said the outcome of the August 15 governorship poll demonstrated that political power ultimately resides with the electorate, stressing that no amount of incumbency, political influence or financial inducement could override the will of determined voters.
earlier reported that Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing a second four-year term after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, Frank described Adeleke’s victory as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a signal that the 2027 presidential election would be decided by Nigerians at the ballot box.
Osun Election Sends Strong Signal Ahead of 2027
According to him, the outcome should dispel any notion that future elections are predetermined, insisting that Nigerians alone would decide who occupies Aso Rock after the 2027 presidential election.
“President Tinubu may think he already has his election results in mind, but ultimately, it is the Nigerian people who will decide his fate through the power of their votes,” Frank said.
He argued that Adeleke’s victory reflected the determination of Osun voters to defend their democratic choices despite what he described as political pressure and attempts to influence the electoral process.
Frank maintained that the election should inspire Nigerians to believe once again in the power of the ballot, saying democracy could only flourish when citizens actively participate in elections and protect the sanctity of their votes.
He congratulated Adeleke, his supporters and the people of Osun State, describing the result as another affirmation that leadership must always reflect the genuine will of the people.

Opposition Unity, Voter Vigilance Key to 2027
The former APC spokesman urged opposition political parties to immediately put aside their differences and build a united coalition capable of confronting the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the Osun governorship election has demonstrated that a coordinated opposition remains the strongest pathway to changing Nigeria’s political leadership through democratic means.
He also called on Nigerians to remain vigilant throughout future elections by not only casting their votes but also staying behind to monitor the counting, collation, and transmission of results.
“Let 2027 not be business as usual. They must vote, stay, and see their votes counted, just as they have done in Osun,” he stated.
Frank praised Osun voters for what he described as their political ingenuity and courage, alleging that many citizens rejected attempts to determine their choices through financial inducements.
“I commend the people of Osun for this new political ingenuity, where money is taken, yet still voted for the candidate of their choice. After all, the money belongs to us as citizens, as it was taken from government coffers,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to remain peaceful but resolute in protecting their votes through lawful and democratic means, particularly in the face of alleged harassment and intimidation.
Frank also commended Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for what he described as his commitment to electoral integrity during the Osun governorship election.
He challenged Nigerian youths, entertainers and other influential public figures to emulate the singer by taking a more active role in the country’s democratic process.
“Going into 2027, I call on Nigerian youths and celebrities alike to borrow a leaf from Davido, as this is not the time to sit on the fence. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he said.
Frank urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the electoral process, insisting that political power belongs to the people and that democracy can only be sustained when citizens participate actively and defend their votes.
“The time has come for Nigerians to believe again. The time has come for the people to rise, vote, and protect their votes. The time has come to choose wisely,” he said.
